The Carnation Ice Cream Restaurant opened in Beaumont in 1948 and was an especially popular spot on Sunday evenings for more than twenty years.
This particular scene celebrates the fourth of July, 1953. The girl at the counter is feeding her boyfriend some "famous" banana split…and it only cost $ .35!
We all have our special memories of the "old malt shop" and it was a great spot for that first date!

Malts, Sundaes, and my favorite, the famous Carnation Ice Cream Shop banana split. When doing the research for this nostalgic painting, the seventh in the "Moments to Remember" series, I heard about everybody's favorite malt shop meal or desert treat.
I wanted to also display the classic 40s-50s design of the glass blocks, tile, and neon signs. The cub scout is distracted by the 4th of July fireworks and is spilling his ice cream, and my '41 Cadillac has a flat! That happened a lot.
