David Crockett Jr High
|(This image has less resolution than the print.)|
Originally known as the South End Junior High School, this structure was built in 1923. The first classes were held in the fall of 1924, and in 1926, the students voted to change the school's name to honor Texas hero David Crockett.
I was honored in the ninth grade to do the artwork for the cover of the first yearbook, "Crockett's World - '57-58." Eventually, the status of the school was changed to "David Crockett Middle School." The old building was later demolished and a new facility built, renamed Martin Luther King Middle School.
In memory of Principal Harvey Smith.
For this print, I drew the original Pen & Ink, then colorized my drawing with Prismacolor Premier softcore colored pencils. The prints are made on high quality cardstock paper.
